Gold Cup Day LIVE Cheltenham tips, pictures and celebrities as races continue despite COVID-19

The final day of racing at Cheltenham will go ahead as planned after the Prime Minister Boris Johnson ruled out cancelling large scale sporting events for the time being.

It has been business as usual for Cheltenham Racecourse all week, albeit with a few more hand sanitisers, and the showpiece of the National Hunt Festival will be no different.

Despite a slight reduction in crowd numbers, less than 13,000 down on 2019’s record breaking attendances over the first three days, racegoers have still been flocking to Cheltenham racecourse for the Festival.

Yesterday afternoon a second COVID-19 positive case was confirmed in Cheltenham , taking the total number of cases in Gloucestershire to six, but just an hour later the Prime Minister Boris Johnson said meetings with sporting bodies would continue but cancelling events at this time would have ‘little effect’ in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

Today celebrities are expected to be out in force with rumours of Hollywood stars, TV personalities and sporting heroes in attendance. On the course Santini and Al Boum Photo will battle it out for the Gold Cup glory in the feature race. And the all important Prestbury Cup will be awarded to either the Irish or the English trainers.
